Fancy yarns can be found in an unlimited number of varieties and textures. The idea of a compound fancy yarn is to combine two or three strands together so that one of them acts as the fancy or effect strand, another acts as the yarn core and perhaps a third one acts as a binder to secure the effect strand to the core strand. The binder strand is usually small and is often not readily visible. The differences in the appearance of the various yarns are largely dependent on the extent of prominence of the effect strand. This is typically controlled by a number of structural factors including the size of the effect strand, the configuration assumed by the effect strand (wavy, looped, snarled, etc.) and the core-effect arrangement used.
